I mean it’s a pretty small city, and an even tinier Lemmy community. Anyone part of nmlug? I’ve been meaning to go to a meetup for a while.

I’ve been using GNU/Linux for over 20 years, and FreeBSD before that. I have never got around to joining an inperson LUG. Maybe I should.

I’m not quite at 20 years, getting close. I was part of a hacker space once which was kind of cool … But I moved away. I think I would like to do something in person once and a while since I basically never have to leave the house anymore :P

I’m reading this on a laptop running Ubuntu Mate right now. Would there be anything useful for me in joining the nmglug if my interests in Linux tend to be on the “It’s good for programming and isn’t tied to Microsoft or Apple” side and not really on the evangelist or tinkerer side?

I’ve asked myself the same question. I’m not sure, like the idea of just getting together to geek about Linux actually sound very boring (getting together for a hackathon sounds fun though). I think in reality it would be a chance to socialize with people who understand your interests better than the average bear l, and interesting topics would come up.
